After starting the truck, the battery voltage creeps up to about 17.2 volts.

I have replaced the regulator, removed the regulator, and un-hooked all the regulator wiring.

The alternator was sent out, rotor repaired and diodes replaced. Diodes were not found to be bad, but since it was apart, they were replaced.

After putting it back on the truck, the problem persists.

I have checked voltage at F +. It had 12v with engine running

with F - unhooked the unit still over charges.

It seems like it is full fielding with the regulator removed from the system. which meens that the field is picking up a ground internally?

Does this sound right.

voltage drops across the cables are OK.

Batteries have been tested.

a different alternator (style) was set in place and it does not overcharge.

Also, looks like these are getting hard to come by. Anyone have one they would like to part with?

concerning the steplights, compartment lights, and rear strobes. The system has positive cables feeding the rear box,but no wires to engage the relays. All the systems work by moving the wires to the positive side of the relay. It has DATA wires connected to the different relay modules. I think a control box is missing in the cab,but don't know what it would be. Any ideas or experience would be appreciated.

I am just wondering what people are using. I use lead acid batteries from NAPA, I get about two years out of them. I tried the AGM batteries, I get about the same life from them. Optimas are great for smaller vehicles, ie, Tahoes. What is everyone else doing?
