Hey guys, I've got one that has a few people scratching thier heads. '07 Cummins ISL 425 in an E-One Typhoon, It has a loud whistling noise coming from the area of the turbo when the engine is under full throttle just before the transmisson shifts up. OK My first thought was a leaking boot or hose. Checked that - no leaks. Pressure tested the entire air intake system from the turbo to the intake manifold - no leaks. Cummins has replaced the turbo 2times but the noise comes back after a week or so. Cummins says they have no idea, that everything that could possibily cause that kind of noise has been eliminated. Have any of you had similar issues? I'm open for any thoughts or suggestions.

I've got alot of these in 7 EOne HP100 sticks. 3 of them have had the same noise, and it is misleading as to where it is coming from. Ours started squealing right about 1,900-2,000 rpms, or just before upshifting. It almost sounded like a high rpm belt squeal.
I've replaced the fan hub on all of them to correct the problem. Since then, all 3 have been quite. COO |

It is belt squeal, replace the belt with a Gates Green Stripe belt and make sure your tensioner is working properly. I've done this on several trucks and had no more noise.

I did the belt thing first for all of them, and they came back with the same noise in less than a week.
Replace the belt first. If it comes back, replace the fan hub. COO |
