I'm with Mike on who is responsible for that mess, and who does the maintenance on it.

Is this rig on a volly or paid department??? Who actually is responsible for the repairs and/or checks on the rigs???

So many questions, so many problems.

Look's like a old Lafrance gear box. Am I correct?

I believe I know a little about this issue. This pictures looks like one I received a couple weeks ago; if it is the same unit it is a small volunteer department with no maintenance until repair is needed. I was told by the department they were pump testing and heard a noise during the second part
of their pump test and shut it down. He said the truck was still pumping at this time. Hard to believe. They dropped the gearbox themselves, so only got part of the story; not many details.
